7 must see places in your Dzongri trek route

The trek starts from YUKSOM covering the Himalayan range forest and then passes through Tshoka and Thansing and then reaches to Dzongrilia and the trek completes reaching Yuksom back via same route. The nearest railway station is about 163km, NJP and Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri from Yuksom. Shared jeeps and local car rental services are available from Sikkim and Siliguri.

The place is beneficiary for the trekkers, Dzongri trek or Goechala trek route. Geyzing is a sub-division of west Sikkim in which Yuksom is a small town located in it. Yuksom consist many Buddhist Monasteries and have a special religious and culture and it is a starting point of Khangchendzonga National Park.

First place when you reach from Yuksom while trekking will Tshoka. Tshoka a small village inside the Khangchendzonga National Park. It is the place for the trekkers to take a halt for the day and continue the next day. The mountain slope of the Tshoka is covered with dense forest and due to steep slopes and dense forest the trekkers are allowed to continue the trek next day. The next halt after arriving from Tshoka is Phedang, a small area covering the dense forest and sloppy mountains having Pine and Oak trees all over and it’s a close point or halt to Dzongrilia.

Must see places while trekking from Yuksom to Dzongrilia:

1. Monastery in Yuksom, Dubdi Monastery:

Dubdi monastery is the pilgrimage of the Buddhist Religion and having three more Monastery side by side Norbugang Chorten, Pemayangtse and Tashiding Monastery. These monasteries are from the ancient times but reconstructed in recent years. The best place to visit before starting the Dzongri trekking.

2. Rabdentse Palace:

The second former capital kingdom of Sikkim was Rabdentse. Now the ruin and chortens of the palace can be seen and visited. It is the historical monument of Sikkim.

3. Khangchendzonga National Park:

 A biosphere reserve and a national park in Sikkim named from the world’s third highest peak M.T Kanchenjunga. It is the one and only national park in Sikkim. Animals like Musk Deer, Snow Leopard and Himalayan Tahr are found in this park. So while you are in a trek you can find these animals who are reserved in the park with proper safety and preventing the risk to the trekkers. The park continues from Yuksom to Dzongrilia and then to Goechala. The park is covered with Pine, Oak trees and dense forest. It’s lucky to see a red panda hanging on the trees but they don’t come down.

4. Lake in Tshoka

It is said as a quiet lake just ahead of the Tshoka village where 7 Tibetan families have settled down and they help the trekkers with the fruit like orange And also they inform us not to drink too much of plain water but to drink fruit juice which is provided by them in exchange of money. They not only help you by giving fruits but medical treatment side by side.

5. From Tshoka you can clearly see the peak of the M.T Kanchenjunga

Early in the morning from Tshoka you can clearly see the peak of the M.T Kanchenjunga fully covered with snow. The best thing is to do is that you can be provided by your hired cook or else ask the people residing in Tshoka for a bowl of Garlic soup and drink it you will get a some bit of hot temperature inside your body.If you can consume alcohol then try out the local made “Rum” made by the residence which they make themselves and drink to get rid out of the thundering cold. You can get it from the guide but let him know before so that the guide can arrange it from Yuksom.

6. Above Tshoka you can get a lake in Samiti which gives the reflection of M.T Pandim

A quite higher above Tshoka you can get a lake in Samiti which gives the reflection of M.T Pandim. M.t Pandim is also well recognized mountain all over the world, which is only seen clearly from Sikkim that is Thansing. Thansing is a place having small tents and small base camp for the trekkers before reaching Dzongri and Goechala. The place is just on the slope of the mountain consisting dense forest with pine and oak trees.

Dzongri is an amazing and an adventure place and one of the best trekking in Sikkim. It’s like you have got the full most adventure of your life as from Dzongri you can see the peak of 6 mountains covered with snow. The viewing place is at a high altitude so it’s better to carry oxygen mask for the people who have suffocation and heart diseases. The 6 mountains are as follows:

  • Mount Koktang,
  • Mount Kabru,
  • Mount Kanchenjunga,
  • Mount Simvo,
  • Mount Pandim,
  • Mount Ratong.
